Rates and categories can change. Confirm the live page before traveling. The gift shop may be visited without paying garden admission.

Reciprocal garden memberships

Yew Dell participates in the American Horticultural Society reciprocal program, but its official page states that benefits from gardens within 90 miles do not apply. It specifically notes Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest and Waterfront Botanical Gardens as examples. Bring the appropriate membership card and verify eligibility before expecting complimentary entry.

What to see

The property includes cultivated garden spaces, woodland areas, research plantings, trails, and historic features associated with Theodore Klein’s former estate. The garden’s official overview describes it as a National Register-listed historic landscape and a center for plant research and education.

Season determines what is flowering and which programs are available. Allow time for a slower walk rather than treating the garden as a single photo stop.

Food and picnics

Outside food and beverages are generally welcome on the grounds, but the garden prohibits coolers and restricts outside food during Bourbon & Botanicals and the Farmers Market. Review the event calendar and current cafe information before planning a meal.

Carry out trash and use only designated seating or picnic areas. Do not place food, bags, or equipment in planting beds.

Dogs and service animals

Pets are not admitted every day. The 2026 “Hounds on the Grounds” program allows well-behaved, leashed dogs on designated Sundays from noon to 4 p.m., with listed blackout dates. Service animals as defined by the ADA may accompany visitors at other times.

Do not leave pets in vehicles. Check the official calendar before bringing a dog because special events and blackout dates override the general Sunday program.

Accessibility questions

A botanical garden can combine paved areas, gravel, turf, woodland paths, slopes, and historic buildings. Visitors who need step-free access, firm surfaces, seating, accessible restrooms, or mobility assistance should contact Yew Dell about the current route before arrival.

Ask which gardens, trails, buildings, cafe areas, and event locations can be reached with the mobility device being used. Weather may change the suitability of outdoor surfaces.

Garden etiquette

  • Stay on designated paths and out of planting beds.
  • Do not pick flowers, seeds, fruit, or plant material.
  • Respect wildlife and the garden cats.
  • Follow current photography and event policies.
  • No smoking, vaping, weapons, or firearms under the published garden rules.

A practical visit plan

  1. Check the hours, holiday closures, and event calendar.
  2. Confirm admission or reciprocal eligibility.
  3. Review weather and footwear.
  4. Ask about accessibility before traveling when route details matter.
  5. Allow time for both formal gardens and woodland areas.
