How Can A Wildfire Affect Your Vehicles?

Back in November, wildfires were popping up all over Kentucky! While the winter months have quelled the fires for the most part, there are residual effects that might have an impact on you, and believe it or not, your car!

There have been several reports about wildfires melting tires and cars catching fire, but not all damages are as obvious. Here are a couple things you could keep in mind:

Visibility

Driving through fog and smoke caused by wildfires can obstruct visibility. Driving a bit slower than your usual speed to keep an eye out for wildlife and other drivers could save you a lot of headaches later on!

Air Quality

Another consideration when it comes to wildfires is the poor air quality caused by the ash. At first, you can see it, but long after the visible ash disperses, the air you breath and the air moving through your car can still be detrimental. It’s not a bad idea to bring your car in to take a look at your engine’s air filter in order to mediate the effects of poor air quality on your car’s system. Dirty air filters can result in poorer gas mileage and premature engine failure.

Keeping an eye out for visible damages to your car is certainly important, but don’t forget to consider potential issues that are less obvious!
